Who lived here before? Where have they gone? What is the secret of Isola?" Find new sources of food to nourish your villagers and help them rebuild the remains of this mysterious city. Land on the hidden shores of the northern side of Isola and explore what was once a secret city. Last Day of Work's official site summary for the game reads as follows: "Embark on a new journey with a group of villagers in search of a new part of the island to populate. In the third installation in the series, Virtual Villagers 3: The Secret City, a group of villagers venture to the northern shore of Isola, where they find an abandoned city that they must restore by creating alchemy lab and repairing huts and ancient structures, discovering artifacts and learning new things about Isola's history. They also discover a small group of abandoned children and, as with other games in the series, attempt to build a society anew. Two curious villagers decide to adventure into the cave that had long taunted them and find themselves on the western shore of Isola, with new mysteries to solve. Has the same stories and gameplay as A New Home. They rereleased it with more options in April 2012 for iOS. This child is the key to uncovering many of the other mysteries of the island including removing the boulder blocking a secret cave, the starting point for the second game in the series. They build huts, grow flowers, unclog streams, create graveyards and places of worship, and eventually give birth to a magical "golden child" who never ages. Some time later these villagers crash into the southern shore of a new island, which they name Isola, and start their civilization anew. This game is based around organizing and growing a village to develop villagers with more skill sets, culminating in giving birth to a child with all five skill sets.Ī few villagers flee their island on boat due to an erupting volcano. There, they must uncover the secrets and puzzles of Isola and create a village. The survivors fled and discovered another island called Isola, where they make their new home. In the first game, A New Home, islanders have lived in peace for many years on their island but, one day, a volcano erupted and destroyed their home. There are four portions to the island, in which the game is set, being the cardinal points of the compass. The games are based on puzzles and strategy and have an underlying motive throughout with a mix of ethnic and cultural backgrounds surrounding a mythical island called Isola (EE-zoh-la). It is released as freeware for Windows, Mac OS X, and for convergent mobile telephone technology. Overall it's a shame this fifth installment doesn't really include any major improvements or gameplay innovations.Virtual Villagers is a series of village simulator video games created and developed by Last Day of Work, an independent video game developer and publisher. The Villagers could be better animated too, as Virtual Villagers 5 looks incredibly basic for 2011.įor fans of the series, Virtual Villagers 5 is more of the same, so if that's what you want you will enjoy it. While the cartoon style is OK, there has been no improvement over the last game and the interface is starting to look tired. The biggest criticism of the game has to be the graphics. Nevertheless, Virtual Villagers 5 is a gently compelling game if you give it a chance. The gameplay is also pretty linear - there are lots of things you have to do if you want to progress, so there's not much freedom. This could mean building a shack, dismantling a heathen totem or even trying to convert a local! The pacing of Virtual Villagers 5 makes it ideal for casual gameplay, but there is much less personalization involved than in The Sims, for example. Villagers can be picked up and dropped on a part of the environment you want them to interact with.
